The mass exodus from Discord, following their dystopian decision to gather personal information from its users is absolutely unreal. It’s clear, online communities want privacy, and rightfully so! See our previous posts as to why this is happening. MG no longer maintains a presence on Discord. We believe in the right of freedom of speech without giving up privacy.
Gamers Nexus recently a rundown of available platforms that offer alternatives to Discord, including, which MG moved to years ago. In the video, Steve makes mention of Matrix’s former association with government entities. It’s true. At the origin of Matrix, development was funded by a government-connected company. However, those ties were cut once the funding was cut.
MG has no political affiliation. We just want to play and chat about games with others who share the same love for gaming. MG runs a self-hosted instance of Matrix. We conduct regular security audits, including audits of changes from one release or update to another. We had deep concerns over Matrix’s past government association as well. However, given the server and client code is all 100% open source for anyone, and everyone, to review for security and privacy concerns, it remains the choice for us.
The point of the video: There are a number of alternatives. Steve goes into detail of ones they have identified as alternatives.
Thanks Steve!
