In a rather odd move, Humble Bundle has terminated their “refer a friend” bonus for Humble Choice (previously “Humble Monthly”) and other programs, citing:
We’ve long worked to create a community where gamers can connect and share their love for amazing games, software, and books. A part of this connection was built through our Refer a Friend program, which has been in place for the last several years. Unfortunately, the program has reached the end of its life due to an unmanageable spike in referral abuse over the past several months.
This decision wasn’t made lightly. Many of you have enjoyed the program, and we’re investigating other options this year that offer similar benefits for our most loyal customers.
We want to thank everyone who participated in the Refer a Friend program and helped grow Humble’s community. Your referrals allowed us to increase our support for charities and meaningful causes, and we loved offering you a way to share Humble Bundle with your friends.
It should be no surprise that we’re huge fans of Humble Bundle, even after IGN’s acquisition of the charity-driven “pay-what-you-want” games store in October 2017. This one comes to a shock to us, however. We’ve been endorsing Humble Bundle’s charity-supporting game sales for a lot of years now. It saddens us to see this program go.
That said, MG will still continue to support Humble Bundle and all the charities they’ve supported throughout the years.
