Fragland has posted some screen shots of Metroid Prime 2, sequel to the original Metroid Prime the game that forced me to buy a Gamecube.
It looks like there will be multiplayer support, atleast split screen for sure. It would be nice if they implemented network play.
Since Unreal Tournament 2004 has vehicles it didn't take long for some one to mod some demolition derby action into the game. Unreal Demolition mod has released it's first beta the other day and already getting some attention. It looks pretty cool so check it out for yourselves.
As E3 gets closer, more details on Doom 3 have been released. The game's cooperative multiplayer mode will only be available on the XBox! This isn't good news for PC players, but the XBox owners are probably jumping for joy. This co-op mode will be complimented by the 4-player deathmatch mode already announced for the XBox version. Despite all the talk of Doom 3's multiplayer capabilities, id Software's main focus is on the storyline and plot of the single player game.
It's been reported that the record label EMI has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts for licensing infringement in some of their 2004 titles. According to the suit, music files in Madden NFL 2004, MVP Baseball 2004 and Tiger Woods PGA 2004 were not licensed for use in the manner EA used them in the games.
Careful EA, the RIAA may be watching!
According to Tom's Hardware Guide, there is a group out of Germany that has created a FPS that is only a 96KB download. Don't think that it's going to look like Castle Wolfenstein though (the original one). There are full lighting effects throughout. You will need at least 512MB of RAM to run it and a decent graphics card to boot. My GeForce 5200 didn't handle it very well. Check out the details at Tom's Hardware.
Bungie has released new screenshots of their upcoming release, Halo 2, at the official site. Additionally, more information has been leaked about the game.
Microsoft will be taking down its XBox Live! network this Wednesday (4/21/2004) for a full 24 hours for a massive upgrade to Live's network infrastructure they're calling 'Tsunami'. This upgrade will provide XBox Live! owners with features such as MSN Messenger integration and new teams and tournament options. Some of the new goodies will not be available immediately, as some of them require game title manufacturers to take advantage of them.
Herve Caen, CEO of Interplay, announced on April 15th that Fallout 3 is a reality in Interplay's line-up. After the demise of Black Isle Studios, it was uncertain what future Fallout 3 had. However, fans of Black Isle Studios can rest easy knowing their legacy will live on.
Later comments from Caen indicated that while Fallout 3 is not currently in development, a third party developer will be picking up the work in the near future. Another announcement is expected with further details of the development plans. One interesting tidbit that has not been confirmed or denied is Fallout 3's multiplayer capabilities.
Fallout 3 had no future as of last year when lead people behind Black Isle Studios left the company. A few months later, Interplay pounded the last nail into the coffin, and subsequently killed Fallout 3. It's always good to see a squashed game get revived. (Duke Nukem Forever anyone?)
The Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO) in Japan has announced their plans for a new rating system to classify game content. Previously, four categories: U, 12, 15 and 18 were used. The new system utilizes nine categories:
Romance, Sexual, Violence, Horror, Gambling, Crime, Alcohol/Tobacco, Drugs, and Language. The new rating system is a response to Japaneese consumers' requests for more information about a game's content prior to taking the game home.
These new ratings will appear in Japan in June 2004. Since the rating system is purely voluntary on the part of the game manufacturers, it's uncertain what difference it will make. I'd be curious to see if the ESRB adopts any of these changes here in the US.
