The MMORPG's of 2004

The Corporation has a four-part series outlining the MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) of the year 2004. As an avid MMORPG'er myself, I've participated in universes such as (in alphabetical order) Anarchy Online, Eve Online (beta), Everquest 1, Planeshift, Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online (beta), The Sims, and There. (Yes, I said "The Sims" and "There" - I plead temporary insanity).

The series is a good read. I have to say, I agree with a lot of what is said there. In my opinion, the MMORPG world is stagnating. Basically, it's becoming "same game, different genre." Let's hope MMORPG's of the future heed the warning - players want more.

MG's New HL2 Server!

A reader asked recently: Will MG ever have its own game server again?

The answer is: YES!!

It's been a while since we've had our own game server, but the time has come once again. We're hosting a Half-Life 2: Deathmatch server via the Linux version of Valve's content delivery system, Steam! The server has tons of high-quality custom maps in addition to Valve's included ones. If you don't have the map, don't worry! The server will download any map files you're missing

Please note, this server will shutdown between the hours of 3am-4am US/Eastern time for maintenance and any Steam updates.

While Valve hasn't released it yet, our server will most definitely be VAC-enabled when the time comes. Cheaters beware!

You'll find the server at: hl2mp.gs.multiplayergamers.com (Steam is required to use this link!).

Half-Life 2 - Driveable Strider Mod!

I knew it was a matter of time until they got those striders working in Multiplayer. It looks pretty cool and what I read it works well on most large maps. Details and Screenshots are available Here.

Hehe watch out Funar your rocket launcher won't hurt me now!

JugarporMail

JugarporMail is a new concept in online games. Since JugarporMail is turn-based, you can spread your games out over days, weeks, or months.

Oh, That Glorious Day! (Half-Life 2 Released!)

As I sat in front of my computer at 2:55am (US/Eastern), I wondered whether the next five minutes would end with happiness or sheer anger. My mouse hovered over the "Steam" icon on my desktop, waiting for those two fateful clicks.....

Carball 2.2 Has Been Released

Carball 2.2 has been released. The mod has exchanged hands after 2.0 and 2.2 is our first major release. The new site for carball is www.carball.org.

CarBall is a gametype for Unreal Tournament2004. CarBall differs from the majority of gametypes currently available as the main activity of the game is not related to killing other players (although that's totally possible) to accumulate points. Instead the main activity in CarBall is driving your vehicle around the map with the aim of knocking the Ball into the opposing teams Goal to score points and win the match.

Half-Life 2 Goes GOLD!

It's true! Half-Life 2 has gone GOLD! Registered users of Valve Software's Steam client who have purchased the game will be able to start playing as soon as the game is released to stores. Physical copies of the game are expected to appear in stores before Christmas. It's almost time to go kick some alien butt!
