Character Transfers for WoW

Looks like Blizzard is finally offering character transfers for over populated servers.

So far only two servers are listed for transfer eligibility and it doesn't seem that you have much of a choice on what server you like to move to.

Not much yet but hey I guess this is a start for resolving these lag problems...

SWG Still has some kick

Yes I know most of us on this board were at one time hardcore SWG fans that got really angry at Sony for the various things that were wrong witth the game. However, since October, many things in the game have changed and most of them (all of them in my opinion) are for the better. And for those that think the game is dead, you may want to take a quick look at Rage of the Wookies, a new expansion coming in April (more on this below). Since alot of you have been troubled by the various items in Star Wars Galaxies that have been fixed and in the interest of keeping the front page somewhat organized, if you are interested in some of the changes, read below.

Billy Wilson Founder of Voodoo Extreme Dead at 33

Not really fun news, But I been a daily reader of Voodoo Extreme since 1997 when I got my 3dfx Voodoo 1 card and wanted to know what games supported it. It's sad to hear of anyone passing just Voodoo Extreme been a part of my daily life for so long.. and that site was one of my inspirations to be a news author here, even though I don't get much time to do so.

Quirky Web Based MMORPG

If you're a RPG'er, you'll want to check out Asymmetric Publications, LLC's The Kingdom of Loathing, a web-based MMORPG featuring adventure, questing, crafting, and even PvP (player versus player) action. The graphics are hand-drawn in a comic-style and primitive, but that's a major part of what makes the game so alluring and outright addictive.

World of Warcraft, Reviewed

Ars Technica has reviewed my newest addiction, World of Warcraft. I have to say, after playing WoW for about a month or so, I agreed wholeheartedly with the reviewer's comments. The article hits the nail right on the head. You can read the article here.

GTA goes MMORPG!

Wow This is big news...

It seems that the creators of GTA have unveiled APB, a Cops vs Gangs MMORPG with a simular twist of GTA. I been guessing that it would happen sometime and If done right this would be one killer MMORPG!

Flash Games Abuse

Due to recent abuse of the Flash Games module here on MG, I've been forced to disable comments within the games. If you would like to discuss the games, please use the forums. The service providers and/or educational institutions where the abusers connected from have been contacted concerning this.

If this abusive activity continues, MG may choose to restrict access to the games, or eliminate them from the site altogether. Please also note, a high score wipe will be coming soon, also due to abuse of certain modules that have known cheats in them (i.e. Beer Run).

HL2DS srcds_run patch

There's a bug in Valve's Half-Life 2 dedicated server for Linux that prevents it from properly creating a file with the process id of the server using the -pidfile commandline option. This flaw directly affects the ability to automatically debug a server crash using the srcds_run script. I've created a patch to work around this problem until Valve releases an update which I'm told is coming soon.

You can download my patch to srcds_run here.

Note: As of a recent SDK update, this patch is no longer needed!

What is "Too Much Gaming?"

Wired magazine has an interesting article which touches on the topic of how the lines between virtual gaming worlds and real life can blur in some people. Sure, like most CTF players back in the day, I used to look at a tall building and imagine how I could get to the top of it if I just had that grappling hook, but does this mean I'm going to go on a rampage after playing GTA: San Andreas or try to grind a railing after some Tony Hawk 2? Definitely not, but for those of us with grappling hook fantasies, the article is a good read just the same.
